The choice of which college to go to can be very difficult. We all chose to go to UNCA for common reasons. Money is a big issue. Out of state tuition is prohibitive and leaving a town to establish oneself in a new environment can be difficult. The environment is another reason we chose to come here. Being a liberal arts college, UNCA advocates independent thinking skills which fosters educational and personal growth within your community and yourself.
I chose UNCA because I was already living in Asheville and there were no other schools close that offered teacher certification. I have a family here in Asheville and didn't want to uproot and move to a new location.
I(Mollie, Kelli, Jessie) chose UNCA because I was already living in Asheville with my kids and husband, who works in Asheville. We like Asheville for the quality of life for our children and UNCA is the only affordable school that offered a teacher license program. I also like the small size of the school.
Again, here is a prompt that would probably best be answered on an individual, rather than group, basis. As such, here are some individual answers.
Drew: I came to school here mostly because it was the only place that let me in. Simple, easy answer. I applied very late in the game and that may or may not have had to do with my refusal from other institutions, but regardless of that fact I would still say that acceptance to this school in particular was a big draw.
Nikki: I chose UNCA because of the theatre arts licensure program. In addition, it was a good financial option. Also, in the past, I attended private universities. I felt that a state school might be a nice change.
Miranda: I chose UNCA because I had applied to many large universities that I felt did not suit my learning style. I had previously graduated from a small private high school that emphasized creative learning, and I felt that UNCA suited me better.
Ali: I chose this school because it was the only one in the region at which I could get a teaching license.
Brian: I chose this school for the location and size, which were the only factors considered.
Nicolette: I turned down grad school and moved down to Asheville because I liked the area. Once here, I decided I wanted to be a teacher, and this is the closest school to obtain a license.
Julie: I moved to Asheville because I heard it was an artistic community. After considering going into education on a college level, I changed my mind. I fell into teaching at a public school level and so I came to UNCA.
mtngirls EDUC 310 K. Cole UNCA Jamie K-12 Art ED: I went to appalachian State because the art department was fantastic and they gave me the best scholarship. I chose UNCA because it was close to where I work and CHEAP!
Gracia Elementary Educ K-6: I decided to attend UNC-A because of the smallness of the classes and also the one-on-one relations of between the students and the teachers. Also I loved the city of Asheville and the uniqueness of it.
Kim 9-12 English: I chose UNCA because I loved the city of Asheville; I thought it was culturally diverse and interesting. I also liked the liberal arts curriculum, and the caring proffessors.
Livingstone College was our choice for school for many reasons. Livingstone College offers the different academic programs that we find interesting. Other considerations include student body population, student/teacher ratio, and tuition and financial aid.
We also considered the travel time between home and school. Livingstone College is a religious based institution, and the reputation and moral values held by the school are appealing. Other factors include the various sports and campus organizations, graduation requirements, and the number of graduating seniors.
K-Livingstone College is Historically Black and it was far away from my home.
C-Livignstone College is far away from home,it is a smaller college, and I can play football.
C-Livingstone College is a small school and it is not far away from home.
Our decisions were encouraged by our wanting to get away from home and wanting to be a part of a small college atomosphere. Livingstone College provides us with one on one opportunities and a family feel.
